April 5, 2010

After winning their home opener over the Yankees, my goldendoodle – The Mad Dog, had this to say:

Go Red Sox!

    Rich,

I just found your blog via On Deck Circle, and I’m glad I did. Your sandlot posts have all rung true with me.
Have you ever played ball in a cemetery? We had an almost perfect set up in a cemetery only a couple of blocks from my house. There was a gravestone in dead center about 200 feet from home plate. It was like playing in old Yankee stadium.

  2. Kevin,
Always great to hear from a fellow sandlotter. Your experience of playing ball in a cemetery sounds like screenplay material…

While I never turned two in a graveyard, I played some wiffle ball in our next- door neighbor’s yard. He had built a bomb shelter and I remember fouling a few off its entrance doors.
